Bankseta- Problem Solving

Online
Welcome on this skills programme!

This module is part of BANKSETA’s “Capacity Building for Employees” learning programme that aims to equip you with the critical competencies you need to survive and thrive in work and in life. The purpose of this module is to give you an overview of the problem-solving process, as well as key problem-solving tools that you can use every day. You will learn valuable techniques such as brainstorming, information gathering, analysing data, and identifying resources to help you solve problems.

It’s important to realise that being a problem solver isn’t just an ability; it’s a whole mind-set, one that drives people to bring out the best in themselves and to shape the world in a positive way. Rather than accepting the status quo, true problem solvers are constantly trying to proactively shape their environment. Imagine how different our world would be if leaders like Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr. and Steve Jobs lacked this attitude.

At the end of this course, the learner should be able to:

  • Develop a conceptual understanding of problem solving in the workplace;
  • Understand why problem solving is needed as a key competency in the work environment;
  • Reflect on the personal attributes required for problem solving;
  • Identify the typical barriers to problem solving;
  • Apply a range of problem-solving tools at various stages of the problem-solving process in order to analyse and arrive at an appropriate solution;
  • Explain problem solving as a creative and critical thinking process used to arrive at a fit for purpose solution; and
  • Implement the phases in the problem-solving process to arrive at a sustainable solution.
